What is Geeking Out all about?
Who Are We?
Geeking Out began as a very different website.
Years ago, a young Canadian broadcaster, who also loved tech, launched a website focused on undiscovered treasures of the gaming world.
It was super fun, resulted in a short-lived original YouTube series, but ultimately websites are tough to run, and the dream was over.
Or so it seemed.
Fast forward to 2020, when the principles of the website were repurposed as a weekly national TV segment called Geeking Out. From there, the knowledge and expertise grew, resulting in a website with a new vision.
Who is Geeking Out for?
Not everyone follows tech the way we do. We know that and we're here to help those people who are not tech aficionados.
Regular people don't have the time or interest to follow the product cycles of all the different phones, laptops, and game consoles out there. But when it's time to make big deciions on major purposes, they can turn to us for solid advice!
And when people buy their shiny new gadgets, we want to make sure they know how to get the most out of them. Our phones, computers, and game consoles are often capable of far more than we realize. And if someone is there to show us how to use them to their fullest, it unlocks the power of the tech we just bought!
Our goal is to help you make better decisions when deciding who to hand over your hard-earned cash to.
How Do We Decide What We Like?
- History From following and reviewing consumer tech for about, we have the context to recognize what's truly new and different in tech and games.
- Experience When we provide a review, we've actually tried the products. That might sound obvious, but that's not actually how things work with many publications.
- Affordability & Value You work hard for your money & so do we… Nothing grinds our gears like wasting money on products filled with broken promises. We make sure to provide recommendations not just on something being the "best" but also having good value.
- Locale There's no shortage of tech website, but so few focus on the Canadian market. While a lot of the stuff we cover is relevant to many countires, there are often nuances between regions related to tech releases and performance in different parts of the world. So first and foremost, we're testing things through the lens of Canadian users.
Let's Talk About the Money
We felt strongly that the website should be;
- Free to Use
- Not Litered With Ads
- Full of Valuable Content
So we figured out two ways to solve this.
First, we include (the usual) affiliate links to some of the featured products so, if you find our content valuable, you can support us at no extra cost to yourself by buying through the links (and we'll get a commission). This is a very standard practice in the web publishing industry and helps us keep the lights on and buy as many products as we can to go hands on.
Second, it occurred to us that we could let some of the featured brands reuse our content in their marketing efforts. This way we get to stay independent (only available to brands we have already reviewed/approved) and keep the website access free to you (our audience), while making sure we have a way to keep the lights on.
Hope you enjoy!
But even if you don't… we probably aren't going to stop…
Because this website is a business, but also a passion. It gives people a chance to Geek Out about the gadgets and games they love, so we're gonna keep doing that. Even if it's just for us and our parents.
But if it helps you too… that's just a bonus!
