Staff Pick Samsung Evo Plus 990 Ssd Shop

Geeking Out Shop: Samsung 990 EVO Plus

There's not a PlayStation owner alive who hasn't had to delete a game from their console to make room for a new one. Games these days are massive, and the included harddrive is only so big. It is shockingly easy to install additional storage on your PlayStation 5, but there's lots to consider when selecting the right type of "Solid State Drive." We love the Samsung 990 EVO Plus because it comes in a variety of sizes (for a variety of budgets), it has high read speeds, and even though it doesn't have a heatsink, overheating isn't an issue. If none of that makes sense, just trust us. We've tried a couple of methods to increase PS5 storage, and this is the one we recommend to our friends.

Portable PlayStation Elo Vagabond Mobile Gaming Controller Front Closed Large

Geeking Out Shop: ELO Vagabond Mobile Controller

PlayStation makes a portable gaming device called the Portal. It's very pricey for what it is, but it allows you to enjoy your PlayStation games on-the-go. However, chances are that the person you're shopping for has a smartphone. And if they do, then the ELO Vagabond is a great gift! They slide their phone into this controller grip. It plugs in via USB-C (the connection on all modern Android phones and iPhone 15 and newer) and allows you to harness the power of the PlayStation Remote app, using your phone's display to browse your library and play your favourite games that are installed on your console! We've tested a LOT of mobile controllers and, in particular, if you're a PlayStation gamer, we think you'll like this one.

Extra Controller Dualsense Chroma Indigo

Geeking Out Shop: Chroma Indigo DualSense Controller

There is zero chance that your PlayStation-loving friend or family member doesn't already have a controller. However, gaming sessions go long, and it's great to have a spare one ready to snatch up at a moment's notice. And if you're thinking of getting them an extra controller, get one with some style! PlayStation announced their Chroma line-up of controllers in late 2024 (though they didn't all launch until 2025), and they have this beautiful irridescent sheen to them (check out the video at the bottom of this article). Having an extra controller or two in the collection is never a bad thing.

Premium Controller Playstation Edge Controller

Geeking Out Shop: DualSense Edge Controller

Echoing the sentiments above, having additional controllers will not be a burden on any PlayStation fan. However, there is one controller that is the most coveted by PlayStation gamers: the DualSense Edge. Generally, the gift ideas in this guide have been on the pricier side (and that's kinda how it goes when it comes to these gaming gifts), however, this one is such a premium price, it's quite possible that your gaming guy or gal just couldn't justify the eye-watering expense of this controller. What makes it so special? Nearly every part of the controller can be swapped out to match the player's style and preference. If you've got the budget, this is a really, really, REALLY, nice gift.

Charge Up! Razer Quick Charging Stand Shop

Geeking Out Shop: Razer Quick Charging Stand

Keeping your controllers topped up for your next gaming session is crucial. There's nothing worse then sitting down for some quality time with the console, only to discover the battery is dead on your controller. Razer makes excellent gaming products, and this quick-charging stand would be welcome to any gaming set-up. They come in a variety of colours (so you can scope out what controller colour the gamer has), and they have a universal fit for PS5 controllers. When you're not gaming, your controller rests in this classy display. It hides cable clutter and is much more elegant than plugging your controller into the front of the console to keep it charged.

Stylish Gaming Gunnar Optics Dume Glasses

Geeking Out Shop: Gunnar Optiks Gaming Glasses

If your gamer friend is logging lots of hours in front of a display, they'll certainly appreciate what Gunnar brings to the table with their gaming glasses. There are SO many styles, both in terms of the frames and the lenses that appear in their spectacles. They may want an amber-tint when sitting at their workstation to keep their eyes rested, so they can go glasses-free in front of their big-screen for a PlayStation session. Or, they can tap into the blue-light filtering without any colour tint impacting their gaming experience by opting for a clear lens. Gunnar even has designs inspired by popular games, like Call of Duty, further entrenching this as an awesome gift idea for gamers.

Premium Audio Playstation Pulse Elite Wireless Headset

Geeking Out Shop: Pulse 3D Headset

With the DualSense Edge controller, we mentioned some items are a luxury that the average gamer would love but may not be able to justify buying themselves. The Pulse 3D Headset is as premium an audio device as anything avialble for the PlayStation 5, but it's also pricey. The audio experience with these is incredible, completely immersing you into the game by enveloping you into the sounds of your game. From gentle rain drops behhind you, to clashing swords in front, this headset elevates the gaming experience for any title a gamer is playing.

VR Accessories Honcam Psvr2 Charging Stand

Geeking Out Shop: PSVR2 Charging Stand

Before you get this, you'll want to discreetly figure out if the person has a PlayStation VR2. If they do, they may be struggling with an inelegant charging set-up. There are two controllers that need to be charged to operate the PlayStation VR2. And while there's an official Sony charger, it doesn't also provide storage for the headset. This option allows you to charge and store both controllers and display the headset. It also has customizable lighting to match the PlayStation blue or the aesthetic of the person's gaming room.

PS Gift Card Playstation Gift Card

Geeking Out Shop: PlayStation Plus

A gift card is not a cop-out. It gives the gamer the flexibility to choose whatever title they want. OR allows them to tap into a massive library of games by putting it toward their PlayStation Plus membership. PlayStation has a subscription service that allows you to access a limited or massive library of games (depending on the tier you subscribe to) and enjoy online gaming with your friends. If you really don't know what to get the PlayStation fan in in your life, this is the safest bet of everything we've listed.

It can be tricky to find the perfect gift for someone who is a gamer (because, often, they have a lot of games and accessories), so we tried to be really mindful with our picks, in terms of things that a person wouldn't have already or suggesting a "better" version of the item.

PlayStation 5 Indigo Controller.

We obviously like all of the items on this list, and we've tested them to make sure they don't suck. On a personal note, I had longed for more storage for my console for ages, but for whatever reason was intimidated to open it up to try and expand the storage.

Samsung's 990 EVO Plus is a lower-cost, but high-quality way to add storage to a PS5.

Once I got the Samsung 990 EVO solid state drive, I finally took the plunge and can confirm that it was WAY easier than I thought (like a five-minute job that requires one screwdriver), and it insantly enhanced my gaming experience. I have so many games that I like to jump between, including several PlayStation VR2 titles. But I constantly found myself deleting and then redownloading games to make room on the stock hard drive.

Adding the 990 EVO Plus drive was one of the best and easiest things I've ever done to enhance my enjoyment with this console.
