Apple's 2025 edition of the MacBook Air is now on store shelves and introduces to changes over the previous model:

It now has the M4 processor. This means we'll see improvements to performance without compromising battery life (which remains at 18 hours). Truly, if you haven't had an M-series Mac laptop (Air or Pro) it's shocking how good the battery life is. To the point where taking a charger with you if you're going out for the day just isn't a thing.

The MacBook air is light on ports, but not everyone needs 'em.

It now has a new finish - sky blue. Apple's hues in recent devices, like the M4 iPad Airs and the most recent iPad Mini are VERY subtle. With iPhone 16, we got really saturated shades of a variety of colours (which was a great look) but Apple doesn't seem ready to offer those fun finishes in devices outside of the 16 and 16 plus just yet.

Unboxing MacBook Air M4

We just got hands on with this device recently, so haven't had too much time for testing.

While we work on a full review, here's a quick unboxing of the latest MacBook Air.

Who should buy the M4 MacBook Pro?

Again, we haven't had time for extensive testing. Having used an M4 MacBook Pro since November 2024 and flipping between an M3 MacBook Air daily, we can make some early notes.

The biggest advantage of the M4 Macbook Pro was processing power and ports.

The biggest advantage of the M3 MacBook Air was portability.

For most tasks, the M3 processor in the MacBook Air was totally fine (basic video editing in Premiere, gaming with titles like Retunal, Uncharted 4, and others).

Now that it has the M4 chip, the already appealing MacBook Air is even more enticing for Apple users due for an upgrade.

So if you can live without the MacBook Pro ports (and the higher refresh rate on the screen) you'll end up saving a lot of money now that there's an M4 chip in a MacBook Air. If you're worried about memory, you can spec the M4 Macbook Air with 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage, just like the M4 MacBook Pro.

The compromise, aside from the screen, will be losing those ports. But, if you have a decent dock at your main workstation this is a non issue.

We're busily working on our full review of the new MacBook Air. If you have thoughts or questions on the latest laptop from Apple, reach out through Instagram, and I'll incorporate your input into our review.
